today went to the syf opening ceremony. was quite boringat first but when the bands came to compete, the STRESS is on. haha. there were basically two awards. 1. band of the year 2. best drum major. in 2004 (when i was in sec1), they didn't win anything. not even the best drum major. this year was likewise. both were clinched by 2 other schools despite the fact that there were only 3 schools competiting. the chances of getting each award for each school is 33.3333%. it is like 1/3 and in the end. they didn't even get anything. best drum major is from deyi secondary school and the best display band of the year is obviously tanjong katong secondary school. but bowen did well too. i mean in which competition, everyone does their VERY best. especially such crucial/significant competition for BOWEN BAND. i had a bad premonition before the competition that Bowen might not be the final winner.
i could only say BOWEN BAND was great. to me, they are melodious and sweet. but perhaps their weakness point are that 1. NO formation 2. NO special props/things. yaps. that is what i think because BOTH tanjong katong & deyi have FORMATION and tanjong katong had this wierd prop. BUT bowen has none. perhaps they thought they could win with their band music piece but for me, i think this is absolutely NOT enough to earn extra points from the adjudicators. well. well. the competition is OVER. bowen band knew they did well and they really did well since they were the TOP 3 schools that were chosen. that is really a GREAT achievement already. so GO GO BOWEN BAND. work hard in 2008. =)
this year's syf theme is REACHING BEYOND. i prefer last year's theme - Myriad of Colours. more pleasant. more colourful =) i don't know what's next year's. haha. i am eager to join next year's SYF. but i am not sure if i will be chosen or not. HAIS.
